EMENIKE qualifies for UEFA CL,while MUSA misses out
Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike
will have a chance to rub shoulders
with the best players in Europe next
season, after his team Spartak Moscow
beat hosts Lokomotiv Moscow 2:0 in
Sunday's final round of games in the Russian Premier League to qualify for
the UEFA Champions League. Emenike, 24, missed the game as a
result of a red card he received in their
penultimate game against champions
Zenit St. Petersburg. Obinna Nsofor featured all 90 minutes
for Lokomotiv, but was unable to add
to the solitary goal he had scored this
season. Meanwhile fellow Nigerian striker
Ahmed Musa will miss out on the elite
European club competition after CSKA
Moscow were beaten 3:1 at Rubin
Kazan. Musa was an 80th minute substitute in
the game, coming on to replace Liberia
winger Sekou Oliseh. CSKA and the
league's top striker, Ivorian Seydou
Doumbia played the entire game but
failed to find the net. There will also be no Champions
League football for four-time African
Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o whose
team Anzhi Makhachkala lost 2:0
at Zenit and will now settle for the
Europa League.
