YOBO injured during cup match
Nigeria will now have to sweat on the
fitness of skipper Joseph Yobo after
he was injured in Wednesday’s cup
triumph by Fenerbache. Ahead of next month’s World Cup
qualifiers, Yobo was forced out of the
final after just 30 minutes by injury as
his club trounced Bursaspor 4-0 to clinch
the cup for the fifth time. The nature and extent of Yobo’s injury
has yet to be ascertained. This will a great source of concern for
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, who
already has been forced to replace Inter
Milan midfielder Joel Obi who
suffered a thigh injury leading to the
build-up of qualifying matches for both the 2014 World Cup and the 2013
Africa Cup of Nations. Fenerbahce lost the Turkish league title
to rivals Galatasaray in a derby on
Saturday which triggered violence. As a result of finishing second in the
league, Fenerbahce have thus qualified
for next season's Champions League
while Turkish Cup finalists Bursaspor
will feature in the Europa League.
